Whenever I am in the car with Kristen she likes to play the "Name That Tune" game. I know hardly any of the songs that are being played on the radio stations and therefore she always kicks my fanny. As she's flipping through stations and naming tunes by herself, she's proclaiming, "Are you serious?! I can't believe you have never heard that song!"I just shrug my shoulders and let her continue her game!
Why don't I know the songs? Because ever since I got married to Justin, I have found myslef listening to more and more talk radio. And, if it's not talk radio, it's a c.d. (usually Wicked). Not only that, in my opinion, there just isn't anything good on the radio anymore. I was able to prove my case the other day.
I was driving home from another fun swimming excursion at Rachel's parents house when I decided, just for the fun of it, to turn the radio to FM. The first song that comes on have the following lyrics as the chorus,
I kissed a girl and I liked it The taste of her cherry chapstick I kissed a girl just to try it I hope my boyfriend don't mind it It felt so wrong It felt so right Don't mean I'm in love tonight I kissed a girl and I liked it I liked it
(If you are so inclined, although I don't know why you would be, the rest of the lyrics are just as horrible and can be viewed at http://www.lyriczz.com/lyriczz.php?songid=59497)
I was astonished and immediately called Kristen proclaiming that this song is a prime example of why I don't listen to the radio. I was appalled to hear such lyrics being spouted out on the radio that our hsubands, children and family are listening to. I vowed to myslef that day that I will stick to my good, clean, talk radio!!

Gawl Jamie. :o)
Just turn your radio station from the "Satan" channel to something else. Try 89.7 or 99.9 - or the good ol' oldies on 94.5
Sorry - gotta be me, gotta have music, makes my life better. Like the song I am listening to on your blog. Uptown Girl...you do know that came out on the radio right?
I totally know what you are saying. I have to turn the station a lot but like I said. Music is too big a part of my life.
it's sad ....i actually know exactly the song you are talking about,, and even worse 3 of my kids actually know the words. i always give it a big ewhh and turn the station--talk radio is good, and i like dr. laura too, but then she starts talking about something, usually sex, so i prefer to listen to her without my kids around, cuz i never know how deep she's going to go. Glenn beck is a safe bet and funny too!
I can't imagine driving without music. I do believe you did have the Satan station on. There are lots of stations out there that have some really good songs. Some of those talk shows aren't that safe to listen to either . . . we just have to be our own monitors.
Oh I agree radio is pretty bad, but talk radio all the time, I don't know. Sometimes its is hard to listen to the arguing, I guess a CD or Ipod is best!
You guys! I don't just listen to talk radio. I have many c.d.s that I listen to that I know are safe for my kids to hear and are clean. When it comes to talk radio...I only really listen to am stations like 960...Michael Medved, Dennis Prager, Hugh Hewitt and Laura Ingram...the political talk shows! I don't listen to anything about sex etc...
And again - I do listen to music, just not on the radio. and the one that I tuned into was 96.9...a pretty popular station I think.
GO MUSIC - GO TALK RADIO - It's ALL good - we just have to use our filters! I must confess that I have turned into my worst nightmare. I am no longer cool. I always said I would be, but I don't know songs on the radios, I don't know who the latest and greatest actors and actresses are - I don't watch any of the reality T.V. shows - House, 24, E.R. - nothing - I take care of my kids, clean the house and dance to the music I used to know. There is beauty all around - you just have to find it.
But AMEN Jamie - So much filth so much garbage - how will we ever survive if it is going to keep getting worse. Do they make bubbles big enough for an entire house? AHHH!
Talk radio all the way!! Prager and Medved are my favorites. And I totally heard what you were saying...enough to make you sick. Filth everywhere.
