I promise....
We celebrated Gavin's birthday with my family this past Sunday and we combined the party with his cousin Brigham. Brigham is just 5 days younger than Gavin and lucky for us....Brigham is not picky about what kind of cake he gets.
Of course I did a space cake with all of the planets.
Brigham and Gavin
Taking out all the candles, we did 6 for each of them to blow out so 12 in all.
Here are just some close ups of some of the planets. I might add that all of these I hand painted on fondant to make look like the planets.
This one is Jupiter, for those of you who didn't know. I think this one is my favorite. I love how it turned out.
Gavin loved this cake and it was definitely a labor of love. By the way if you are wondering how I got the frosting so black. I use Americolor Gel Super Black and I start with a chocolate frosting base. It is a lot easier to get your black super black doing this.

Love this...
In the hospital the relatives gathered in the waiting room, where a family member lay gravely ill. Finally, the doctor came in looking tired and somber 'I'm afraid I'm the bearer of bad news,' he said as he surveyed the worried faces. 'The only hope left for your loved one at this time is a brain transplant. It's an experimental procedure, very risky, but it is the only hope. Insurance will cover the procedure, but you will have to pay for the BRAIN.'
The family members sat silent as they absorbed the news. After a time, someone asked, 'How much will a brain cost?' The doctor quickly responded, '$5,000 for a male brain; $200 for a female brain.'
The moment turned awkward. Some of the men actually had to try to not smile, avoiding eye contact with the women.A man unable to control his curiosity, finally blurted out the question everyone wanted to ask, 'Why is the male brain so much more than a female brain?'
The doctor smiled at the childish innocence and explained to the entire group, 'It's just standard pricing procedure. We have to price the female brains a lot lower because they've been used.'

German Chocolate Cake
I got an order for one of these bad boys this last week....
I made a "practice" one first just to make sure it was going to tast the way I wanted....man was it good.
The gal who ordered it also wanted some cigars on top so I made them out of fondant and hand painted them to look authentic.
Close up of the cigars.
She was very happy with the way it turned out and so am I. Thanks for ordering Danielle!

Birthday Fun
Gavin had a awesome birthday this year. On Wednesday Grandma Heap took him to lunch and McDondald's and then to the toy store to pick out any toy he wanted. I don't have pictures, but he came home excited and so happy...he had a great time with Grandma. Yesterday, on his actual birthday, we had his favorite for breakfast, and what I make him every year for his birthday....blueberry muffins.
He opened his present, a space shirt, which he adored.
Then we headed to pick up his cousin Collin. We first went to Wendy's for lunch, and then went to the Arizona Science Museum. There was so much to do there and the boys had a blast.
The boys waiting for the "Grand Tour of the Planets" movie. They found out it was his birthday and called him to the front of the Planetarium theatre to tell everyone the names of all the planets. Everyone in the theatre said Happy Birthday and his mother sat beaming with pride! :0)
Hayden was obsessed with this activity.
And the other boys with this one
Collin making sand dunes...
When Justin got home from work, we took him to dinner at Mi Amigos (again...his favorite)
Then to Krispy Kreme....don't know if you know this, but if you go to Krispy Kreme on your birthday, they will give you a dozen donuts....FREE!! Can't pass that one up.
When we got home, he still had a present from Grandma and Grandpa Stewart to open...p.j.'s a huge floor puzzle and a really cool 3-D book about, what else, space
.
When asked what he thought about his birthday he said, "I had super fun mom! Thanks so much!"
Your welcome buddy.

6!
It's hard for me to believe that my little boy is 6 years old!
I actually went into his room last night and had myself a little cry....it's going by way too fast!
He is "one" of the joys of my life (the other being Hayden) and I thank my Father in Heaven every day for this smart, funny, creative, loving, caring, insightful little man that I have been blessed with.
I love him with every fiber of my being. I hope you have a fabulous day Gavin....mom loves you very much and I am so proud of the wonderful boy you are becoming.

Way to go Ken Huber!
I love love love this!
What Has America Become?
By Ken Huber | Friday, July 2nd, 2010 at 1:00 am
Has America become the land of the special interest and home of the double standard?
Let’s see: If we lie to the Congress it’s a felony and if the Congress lies to us it’s just politics. If we dislike a black person, we’re racist and if a black person dislikes whites it’s his First Amendment right. The government spends millions to rehabilitate criminals and does almost nothing for the victims. In public schools you can teach that homosexuality is OK but you’d better not use the word “God” in the process. You can kill an unborn child, but it’s wrong to execute a mass murderer.
We don’t burn books in America — we now rewrite them. We got rid of the communist and socialist threat by renaming adherents “progressives.” We are unable to close our border with Mexico, but have no problem protecting the 38th parallel in Korea. If you protest against President Obama’s policies you’re a terrorist, but if you burned an American flag or George Bush in effigy it was your First Amendment right.
You can have pornography on TV or the Internet, but you’d better not put a Nativity scene in a public park during Christmas. We have eliminated all criminals in America — they are now called sick people. We can use a human fetus for medical research, but it’s wrong to use an animal.
We take money from those who work hard for it and give it to those who don’t want to work. We all support the Constitution, but only when it supports our political ideology. We still have freedom of speech, but only if we are being politically correct. Parenting has been replaced with Ritalin and video games. The land of opportunity is now the land of handouts. The similarity between Hurricane Katrina and the gulf oil spill is that neither president did anything to help.
And how do we handle a major crisis today? The government appoints a committee to determine who’s at fault, then threatens them, passes a law, raises our taxes, and tells us the problem is solved so incumbents can get back to their reelection campaigns.
What has happened to the land of the free and the home of the brave?

Can we say "obsessed"
Don't know if you know this but Gavin is obsessed with space. He draws pictures of all the planets, he makes the planets out of play-dough, he sings songs about them, and talks about them incessantly. Well Justin stumbled upon this picture and showed it to "the vins".
A little while later Gavin came and found us and said he had something to show us in the kitchen.
He said he wanted to make the planets like in the picture daddy had shown him so he cracked an egg and rummaged around in the pantry for the rest of the stuff....luckily he was smart enough to do it all on a cookie sheet.

Yet another cake
I don't even know why I'm posting this...I guess for posterity. It didn't turn out at all like I wanted....it was a hot day and I don't have one of those nifty refrigerated vans like on Cake Boss, so during transport the fondant started sliding and I didn't have any means to really fix it.
Anywho, this is a cake I made for my nephew Blake. He turned one on the 6th and this cake was made to look like the invitation to his party.
There you have it....I really am going to have to figure out a better transportation system, any thoughts???

"It's A Me, Mario!"
My nephew Collin's birthday was last week and I was a schlub and missed it. So, last Friday I decided to do something special for him. He really likes Mario Brothers and so I made him some cupcakes.....
It was so much fun cutting out all the characters. It really took me back to my childhood. I was at work when Justin took them over, but he said that when he showed up Collin was playing, you guessed it, Super Mario Brothers....awesome. I hope he enjoyed them.

4th of July Fun
I love 4th of July. Next to Halloween and Christmas it is my favorite holiday. I love the family barbeque, the swimming, the sparklers, the fireworks, the home-made ice cream....it's awesome.
Here are just a few pics of the kiddos....I think I was too busy having fun to take many pictures so this is all I got.
These are the cupcakes I made for the 4th....I think they turned out pretty cute.
